Gennady Mikhailovich Garbuk was born on July 24, 1934 in the village of Glybochka, Ushachsky district, Vitebsk region, in the family of an employee. Since childhood, he was fond of amateur activities.

G.M.Garbuk entered the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute with a degree in Drama Theater Actor (course of the People’s Artist of the BSSR Dmitry Orlov) and graduated in 1958.

The first sketches and small roles revealed the bright acting personality and talent of Gennady Mikhailovich. The course performance “At the Bottom” by Maxim Gorky, where G.M.Garbuk played Vaska Pepla, was shown in Moscow at a review of the country’s creative universities.

Since 1958, he worked at the Yakub Kolas Theater in Vitebsk.

Since 1962, he has been an actorYanka Kupala National Academic Theatre. On the Kupala stage, G.M. Garbuk created such images as Vasily Dyatlik (“People in the Swamp” by I.Melezh), whom he played first in a TV play (State Prize of the BSSR, 1966), then on the radio and then in the theater, Kaelin (“The Holy of Holies” by I.Drutse), Actor (“At the Bottom M.Gorky), Simon (“The Scattered Nest” by Ya.Kupala), Zelkin (“Who Laughs Last” by K. Krapiva), Andrey Buslay, Gastritis, Dervoed (“Threshold”, “Evening”, “Privates” by A.Dudarev), Tikhon (“Thunderstorm” by A.Ostrovsky), Manilov (“Chichikov” by N. Gogol), Kuril’s grandfather (“Simon the musician” by Ya. Kolas), Tikhon Protasovitsky (“Pinsk Gentry” by V. Dunin-Martsinkevich) and many others.

Gennady Mikhailovich starred in more than 70 films and TV series, including “Black Castle Olshansky”, “Anastasia Slutskaya”, “Brest Fortress”, “Talash”, “Winter Waltz”, “State Border” and others. The biggest success was brought to him by the role of Petrok in the film “The Sign of Trouble” by V. Bykov.

G.M.Garbuk died on February 7, 2018 in Minsk. The actor is buried in the “Alley of Stars” of the eastern cemetery.

The portrait of Gennady Garbuk is in the London Film Academy, which is evidence of his great contribution to world cinema.

For his fruitful work and creative achievements, Gennady Mikhailovich Garbuk was awarded the title of People’s Artist of Belarus, awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Francysk Skaryna Medal, is a laureate of the USSR State Prize, a laureate of the special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus, the prize “For Spiritual Revival” and the Belarusian Union of Theatrical Figures “Crystal Peacock”.
