Celebration of the centenary of the birth of Otto Yulievich Schmidt

His centenary was planned to be held on a grand scale, so the city authorities decided in advance to reconstruct the building of the former men’s gymnasium, where Otto Yulievich studied, and make a bust.

The memory of the famous native of Mogilev was first perpetuated during the scientist’s lifetime, on the eve of the Great Patriotic War, Vilenskaya Street (now Lazarenko Street) was renamed in his honor.

Today, a busy avenue and a branch of the state institution Republican Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control and Environmental Monitoring bear the name of Otto Yulievich in Mogilev.
