Podnikolye is a locality in the Dnieper Valley, also called Pokrovsky Posad. This area was once densely populated. There were the St. Nicholas Convent, the Intercession Church, the Church of St. Anthony, and several synagogues.
Back in the late 1930s, when preparing to move the capital of the BSSR from Minsk to Mogilev, the idea arose to organize a park area in this part of the city. However, the outbreak of war prevented the implementation.
During the Great Patriotic War, the area was deserted – in 1944, by order of the German commandant of the city, the entire population of Podnikol was evicted from their homes, and buildings were blown up to create a free firing zone for artillery.
The presented document illustrates the return to plans to create a park in Podnikolye during the post-war reconstruction of the city.
The Podnikolye Urban park project was finally implemented in modern Belarus. Today it is a place of recreation for citizens, the spiritual and cultural center of Mogilev.
